Sandra is graduating from Incarnate Word University with a BA in Theatre Arts. About a year ago, she came to me for her actor headshots and about a year later, she was back in the studio again. Sandra wanted to celebrate her hardwork and remember this exciting time with a senior photoshoot. She didn’t do senior photos in high school, so she totally deserved the experience now! I also invited Sandra’s family to be apart of the shoot. I love including the family for senior photoshoots. They are such a huge part of a senior’s life. They’ve been their biggest cheerleader and confidant. Why not share the experience together? I often also find that families haven’t taken family portraits together in many years. And before your child leaves for college or to begin their career is the perfect time to capture your relationships and love for eachother.
We started in my downtown San Antonio studio where my hair and makeup artist Dora got Sandra camera ready. Then we captured some individual portraits of Sandra in the studio and then her mom and sister arrived shortly after. They too had their hair and makeup done. Who doesn’t want to get glammed up for a photoshoot? We took the family portraits and individual portraits of them as well. We had an awesome time with Sandra’s family who is from Mexico. Her mom mostly spoke Spanish and I speak a little Spanish, so directing and posing Sandra’s mom was interesting. A lot of body language and non-verbal communicated happened and all the other girls spoke more Spanish than me (including Dora!) so they helped translate. Even with a bit of a language barrier, we were able to get some gorgeous portraits 🙂 After the family portraits, Sandra, Dora and I went to the Pearl Brewery, to focus on just Sandra. The Pearl Brewery is only 3 blocks from the studio and has lots of spots to explore and take beautiful portraits. We wrapped the shoot by doing a fun dancing series where we captured some gorgeous candids, which are some of my favorite images from the shoot.
Downtown Studio Portraits
Studio portraits are some of my favorite. My studio has a wall of windows, high ceilings, white brick and concrete floors that just make my heart sing. I’m able to create so many different looks in this industrial space. We shot Sandra and her family on the backlight and on black velvet background. Sometimes I use studio lights but most of the time I use the amazing window light, which we have plenty of.

Pearl Brewery Senior Graduation Photos
I love shooting at the Pearl! There are so many interesting rustic, industrial, and green spaces! You really could photograph so many different looks here – downtown chic, soft and feminine, a garden inspired look. The architecture is so awesome for photographs. Plus it’s also right on the River Walk! This location has it all. Some of Sandra’s favorite images were from this part of the shoot!
